DefendPR is a multimedia project designed to document and celebrate the resilience, resistance, and pride of the people of Puerto Rico, through photography, documentary shorts and 360 video.
The Rapport Approach
It isn’t often that history is viewed through the eyes of the colonized and standard school curriculum barely scratches the surface of Puerto Rico’s rich history. In designing the DefendPR interactive experience, we wanted to find unique ways to capitalize on the project’s existing assets and also create curriculum that would allow for students to make meaningful connections to the academic content. Rapport Studios designed a comprehensive Augmented Reality timeline of Puerto Rico’s history under U.S. occupation that allows for the user to gain content knowledge through the use of the open-source AR app, Blippar. Our DefendPR social studies curriculum paints a radically more empathetic portrait of the history and future of Puerto Rico, inviting students to take a critical look at themes such as citizenship and resistance.
